Guidelines for Cards and Crafts
Keep the cards generic and suitable for both sexes.
We have a very diverse patient population with many
different beliefs, therefore we ask that you not make
spiritual references; this would also include references
to angels.
Again, because the patient population is very diverse, we
ask you to keep in mind that patients celebrate several
different holidays during the month of December, not just
Christmas; also, some of our patients do not celebrate
Easter.
It is best to decorate the cards with crayons, markers or
watercolors. In order to avoid choking hazards, we ask that
you not glue anything to cards, i.e. glitter, feathers, etc.
Because the patients are very ill, they do best with messages
that are neutral. Please do not refer to them getting well
someday but rather "have a nice day" or "we're sending good
thoughts your way." Some very young card makers who do not
know any better will innocently write messages that say, "I
hope that you don't die," etc, so we are asking that you
monitor the messages that are being written.
